Former mayor pro tem Edward Jones was elected Grambling’s mayor Tuesday. The previous Chamber of Commerce president won with 68 percent of the votes.
Jones’ campaign conversation reflected a desire to work with the people of Grambling.
Jones committed to work with business owners in the downtown Grambling (Village) area and to create internships for Grambling State students if elected.
He emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility, audits and budgeting.
Jones defeated Robert Wiley, an independent candidate whose vision for the city included constructing a hotel in Grambling to stimulate the economy.
Jones is a Democrat. Wiley is an independent.
The city council winners are as follows: Birdex Copeland, Jr. (D) 11 percent 436 votes; Yanise N. Days (D) 13 percent 530 votes; Cathy Holmes (D) 10 percent, 403 votes; Cullen Jackson (D) 12 percent, 464 votes and Roy L. Jackson (D) 12 percent, 485 votes.
