Hustle and plan for your future

Hello, Grambling State University Tigers! I am Cemia Khalek, your Miss Senior 2010-2011.
I am honored and excited to serve as your Senior Class Queen. I am a business management major from the Mile High City, Denver. Some of my affiliations throughout my years at Grambling are but are not limited to, American Marketing Association, the nationally ranked GSU cheerleading squad, Cheer Phi Leader Cheer Organization, and the Favrot Student Union board’s Featured Attractions Committee.

Since my sophomore year, I have participated in pageants at Grambling such as The 40th Annual Miss Calendar Girl Pageant, where I was crowned Miss November 2008.

I’ve been named Miss Cheer Phi Leader 2009-2010 and awarded 1st runner up in the 1st Miss United Afrikan American Men Pageant 2010-2011. Grambling is truly a place where everybody is somebody.

As a senior, it’s extremely important to plan ahead and take initiative in making dreams a reality.

Speaking with my peers and classmates in the college of business, I learned that not everyone took advantage of the tools offered by Grambling State. Tools such as academic based clubs and organizations, guest speakers at campus seminars, career fairs help students.

I constructed my platform titled “Plan your tomorrow today!” This emphasizes the importance of success after graduation and encourages students to take additional steps outside of the classroom to ensure a career and success, post-graduation.

I will team up with various departments to host an assortment of activities such as seminars, that will illustrate proper dress for success attire and interview etiquette.I hope this platform will open networking opportunities amongst students within the university as well as with other students and employers nationally.

I leave you with a quote I heard from our President Dr. Pogue, who was the guest speaker at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church a few Sundays ago, “Good things come to those who wait, is wrong.

“Good things come to those who HUSTLE while they WAIT.”

Have an amazing, blessed and successful semester.
