Dedication ceremonies set for naming buildings

Grambling State University will permanently etch the names Conrad Hutchinson and Fredrick C. Hobdy into Grambling history on May 13, during building dedication ceremonies on the university campus. At 11 a.m. Grambling will dedicate the new performing arts center to legendary band director Conrad Hutchinson, who is credited with making the Grambling marching band a household name.
The $7.4 million building will house GSU’s music and theatre departments.

At noon the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center will be dedicated to the legacy of Hobdy, Louisiana’s winningest college basketball coach. The center is home to the male and female basketball programs with an arena that seats 7,500.
Speakers include NBA Hall of Famer Willis Reed, Dr. Larry Pannell, head of Grambling’s Department of Music and director of bands and Dr. Allen Williams, professor and head emeritus of Speech and Theatre.
