How far will one go to express creativity? Where should the line be drawn? Should a line be drawn?
Erykah Badu didn’t see a line drawn but crossed it in her video, “Window Seat.” It follows her walking Dealey Plaza in Dallas, where John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. During the video, she strips only get shot in the same spot JFK was assassinated. After being shot, the word “groupthink” is spelled out in blue blood.

Controversy surrounds the video. In the midst of stripping down to her “birthday suit,” people were shocked. No one was forewarned. Some of the people in the video had children with them. A letter on necolebitchie.com is allegedly from an adult in the video who had a child with her. She said stripping in front of a child was inappropriate. Stripping without any warning or consent is disrespectful.

At the end of the video, Badu said, ” They feel most comfortable in groups. Less guilt to swallow. They are us. This is what we have become .” While we as a people have changed, we have yet to find respect for other.

Badu has been tweeting about her creativity in “Window Seat.” “I don’t think people are missing the message in window seat. The video is loaded with messages. The masses are leaning on only one,” she wrote.
I apparently don’t have the same creative mind as her since I still don’t understand the point of getting naked.
Badu expressed her creativity but it could have been done in a more tasteful way. If she was to strip, she could have forewarned those passing.

Dallasblack.com quotes Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway saying, “None of this would have occurred had she stayed clothed. But since she didn’t, it elevated the need for making sure that we have policies in place that will protect folks and the integrity of the city as best we possibly can.”

Not everyone will understand the statement she was trying to make. I am one of those who don’t understand. I’m not against nudity. I get nude when I take a shower. But, I am against someone I don’t know getting nude in front of me without warning or consent.

In the words of Badu via Twitter, ” … Dig as deep as you wish or stay on the surface if you wish.
