Family members, friends, athletes and supporters from around the country will converge on the campus of Grambling State University this weekend for the grand opening of the much-anticipated Eddie G. Robinson Museum.
Guest speakers include Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and Brian Kelly, head football coach for Notre Dame University.
Interim President Frank G. Pogue described the grand opening as “a chance to celebrate the life of one of Grambling’s greatest superstars.”
Robinson was the head football coach at Grambling for more than 50 years, amassing a record 408 wins, with 165 losses and 15 ties.
A press conference featuring the Robinson family, Tomlin and other dignitaries is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday. A Unity Prayer for the museum and Grambling State University follows at 2 p.m. in the School of Nursing Auditorium. The alumni event is being sponsored by Wilbert Ellis, president of Friends of the Eddie G. Robinson Museum.
Tomlin is the guest speaker for the corporate banquet, which will be held at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Center. Individual $25 tickets are available at the Assembly Center Ticket Office.
The official ribbon cutting for the museum is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. Kelly is the keynote speaker.
All former athletes who plan to attend the grand opening are asked to meet in front of the Memorial Gymnasium at 9 a.m. Saturday. The attire is coat and tie.
