Deltas donate to alma mater

Recently, members of the Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. celebrated their 10th anniversary. The theme was “One Mission, One Sisterhood.”
The ladies reunited at Grambling State University and donated a scholarship to their alma mater. The $2,099 scholarship will be presented to two students during the spring semester of 2010.

“We wanted to give back to our alma mater so that two deserving students could receive the foundation that we did,” Dana Drawsand said. “A Grambling education is invaluable.”
Drawsand said she was overjoyed to see her line sisters because she had not seen some of them since she graduated.
The spring 1999 line, named the S.C.O.R.E., consisted of 82 women.

Its president then was Terisha Humphreys Johnson, who said it was amazing to have such a large representation of her line make it a priority to come back, celebrate common focus and reconnect.

“It re-established the importance of why we were founded. It was inspiring and reassuring and a motivation to continue to press forward on what our sisterhood is founded upon. It was a very gratifying experience,” Johnson said.
