Juneteenth Events

The city of Grambling is hosting its 37th annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival from Wednesday, June 17 through Sunday, June 21. The line-up for this year’s festival, primarly sponsored by True Care Dental of Grambling, includes:

Wednesday: The ceremonies will open with the traditional prayer meeting, conversations under the tent and watermelon festival. New this year is a performance of God’s Trombone by the GSU Theatre of Arts starting at 5:30 p.m. in Grambling Park.

Thursday: The annual Miss Juneteenth Pageant will be held at the Grambling Community Center at 7 p.m.

Friday: The annual baseball game will feature the Grambling All-Stars vs. the George Family Reunion and tributes to Ralph Garr, James Richards, Frank Ensley and members of the Black Aces and Negro Baseball League at the Community center. This historical event pays tribute to local baseball legends and gives people an opportunity to hear their stories first hand. Food will be sold by the Beautification committee. The Tribute begins at 5 p.m. and the game at 6 p.m.

Saturday: On this day there will be fun for all, featuring Grambling native Conrad Miller as he performs his new gospel CD, a horse show, car show and exhibition, baking contest, children’s fun center, Pleasant Grove Youth Ministry Puppet Show, and more in downtown Grambling.

Sunday is the Father’s Day Barbecue Cook-off at noon and Fishing Contest starting at 2 p.m. in the Grambling Memorial Park.
