Deltas gives students a three-day experience

Posted: Feb. 21 @ 2:05 p.m.Coming back with vengeance, a strong spirit and start is exactly what the Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is doing.

The Delta’s orchestrated a three day event, lasting from Monday to Wednesday, that consisted of seminars and a community service project, called A Delta 3 Day Experience.

On the first day they took us on a ride with a seminar on the Do’s and Don’ts within the Business World. As stated on the flyer this event was going to have limited seating; ladies lined up anticipating waiting to be one of the lucky few to get a seat.

Unfortunately, many ladies were turned away, but Sonya Gibson, chapter president, wanted it to be clear that she apologizes that everyone couldn’t attend. Gibson also wanted the ladies to come out and show support at the other events they were hosting over the next couple of days.

Throughout the seminar they showed us examples of proper attire to wear not only in the business world but in a classroom setting as well. The lovely ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. modeled for us a variety of outfits that we should and should not wear.

They showed us two examples each of what and what not to wear in the classroom, to an interview, for buisnesswear, and last but not least, a place where everybody goes to enjoy themselves, the club.

In the midst of them modeling attire and giving their personal anecdotes on style and grace, they stressed to us that the “first impression is powerful.”

The second day of this experience they explored the history of our past, with a Black History program called, Divas in History Part III. The ladies highlighted certain individuals that played a powerful role in the commencing of our history today.

Dorothy Dandridge, Madame C.J. Walker, Zora Neale Hurston, Shirley Chislom, Oprah Winfrey, and Alexis Herman were some just to name a few.

Deron James gave us a spell bounding performance singing Indie Aries’ “Video”, with his own personal rendition of course. We even had the opportunity to hear poems by Jannah Mason called “Family Ties”, and Maya Angelou’s “Phenomenal Woman” by Janeya Griffin.

To close out A Delta 3 Day Experience, the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. had a road clean- up that started at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church and extended down the whole street.

It was amazing to see the many people who came out to help in supporting the clean up of the road, which was greatly appreciated by the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

At the end of the clean- up Sonya Gibson, chapter president, mentioned to keep a lookout for more upcoming events from the organization and that she greatly appreciated all the love and support from the people who came out and took a ride on their 3 day- experience.
