Bowling team set for title run

The Lady Rolling Tigers will be Alabama bound February 20th-22nd for the 2009 SWAC Bowling Championship. Coach Lewis is very proud of the accomplishments of the team during their current season. Grambling will be one of the three schools representing the Western Division along with Southern and Texas Southern universities.

The Eastern Division will be represented by Alabama A & M, Jackson, and Alabama State. The season has been exciting, outstanding bowling talent when least expected, defeating top schools in the nation; and closing the season with sadness with the lost of four seniors.

One senior Damona Richards, has already graduated in the December 2008 class. Ironically, without any thought three of the starters who graduated a year apart from each other, all from the same high school (Morgan Park) in Chicago. Two of the graduating seniors are cousins (Ashley Dowdy and McCall Call) and there is no doubt why they are so talented coming from bowling families.

Recently returning after a traumatic motor vehicle accident on I-20 on January 7, 2008, and an illness junior Lateona Boyce is bowling astonishingly well.

On January 24, 2009 in Jackson, Mississippi she rolled a 256 game. Newcomers, Brittney Bryant and Asia Johnson have stated that they did not realize that there was such a difference in high and collegiate bowling.

In high school bowling you bowl three games a day, while in collegiate bowling you may bowl five or six and this requires physical conditioning for the stamina and endurance needed to maintain the pace. Volleyball player Kayla Williams as usual plays from the heart and has been valuable in winning.

Their accomplishments and success in these past seasonal competitions has her of the opinion that they will be contenders for a title.
