One unlikely matchup

This year’s Super Bowl features two football franchises that have had two different fortunes. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the Gold Standard in the National Football League. The Steel City is home to five NFL championships, 20 division champions and 24 playoff appearances. Pittsburgh is home to some of the all time football greats, such as “Mean” Joe Green, Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert and others.

Then there are the Arizona Cardinals, who are in the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. This a franchise that has not won an NFL championship since 1947, when they were the Chicago Cardinals. Their 61-year championship drought is second longest in all four major sports.

Since moving to Arizona in 1988, the Cardinals have been 122-214 and are usually in the top 10 on NFL draft day. But not this year.

This year’s Super Bowl is a matchup of two teams that are the direct opposite. The Steelers have a very denominating defense led by Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison and Lamar Woodly. Between them, they have 30 sacks this season. The Steeler defense gave up only 14 points and 237 total yards during the regular season.

The Arizona Cardinals are led by quarterback Kurt Warner, who passed for over 4,500 yards this season. The Cardinals offense averages 27 points and 366 total yards during the regular season.

This should be an entertaining game, a clash of two different styles. Also you have marquee players in this game, such as Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, James Harrison, Hines Ward and others.

This should be a good game.
