Miss Omega, purple and gold attendants crowned

On a brisk Wednesday evening, Keshone Roberts stood proudly on stage as she overlooked a packed auditorium and was newly crowned Miss Omega 2008-2009. Standing alongside her was Miss Purple Ashley Nash, and Miss Gold Key’Andrea James.

The evening began as six school girls dressed in plaid skirts, scarves, and high top socks graced the stage with an opening routine to an upbeat Jazmyne Sullivan tune.

“The Omega Academy School of Pearls” featured first a daywear segment, swimwear, and then later, evening wear. A somewhat unruly, but excited crowd cheered for each contestant as they showcased their talents later in the show.

After a random dedication to Barack Obama on the projection screen, Black Dynasty also performed showing off their choice of school clothes. The contestants also endured a speedy question & answer in which they gave their own personal responses.

Finally after months of preparation and an evening of nerves, the six contestants stood anxiously awaiting the news as the winners were announced.

The SGA President, also a member of Omega Psi Phi served as the Master of Ceremonies.

Roberts is a sophomore from New Orleans. In the talent segment she captured the audience and judges with her fresh routine that featured a mixture of several different popular R&B and Pop songs. In eveningwear she wore an elegant light gold dress.

“They have put in a lot of their time and money to be a part of this,” said Chris Richardson, the Gamma Gamma chapter’s Keeper of Seals.

The Miss Omega Pageant began around 1980. Since then, young ladies on campus have been given an opportunity to receive a scholarship through the fraternity. Michael McGlothan served as the Coordinator/Director of the pageant.
