Hudson tragedy unfolding as suspect identified

Oscar award winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, lost her mother, brother, and nephew last Friday due to a domestic related issue involving her brother-in-law. William Balfour, the husband of Jennifer’s sister Julia, was taken into custody on Friday by police questioning in the killings. Balfour had been living with the family for years and was recently asked by Darnell Hudson, Jennifer and Julia’s mother to leave the family home. On Sunday, he was transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections’ based on active violations unrelated to this investigation.

It was reported that Balfour and Julia had recently been experiencing an unhealthy relationship. The events began earlier in the week when Balfour, allegedly sold one of the family’s cars without permission. Police are now pursuing the lead that the sold car and domestic disputes are connected to the tragedy. William’s mother recently told CNN that her son is innocent and that she did not raise a murderer. Balfour, who is currently on parole and lists the Hudson’s address as his, spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Balfour, 27, was taken into custody for questioning Friday after the bodies of Hudson’s 57-year-old mother, Darnell Donerson, and 29-year-old brother, Jason Hudson, were found shot and killed in the family’s home in Chicago’s South Side, Hudson’s nephew Julian King, was also with the family during the domestic dispute and tragic deaths.

Julian King was reported missing when a family member found Jason and Darnell’s bodies in the home. The Hudson’s later offered a $100,000 reward for the rescue of Little Julian King. Three days later after a long investigation process the Chicago Police Department found Julian King. Seven-year-old Julian, was discovered in a vehicle on Chicago’s west side, said William Taylor, a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s officer. The vehicle was registered to Hudson’s brother Donerson. Julian’s case was declared a homicide.

The actress, whose turn in Dream girls earned her an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2007, had been promoting her latest movie, The Secret Life of Bees, in Florida when she got word of the tragedy, The family was “obviously distraught”, but Jennifer Hudson “remained strong for her family and did not react with unbearable emotions. It was very clear she was the leader.
