Symantec Corp. announced earlier this week that applications are now being accepted for the 2009 Symantec Graduate Fellowship. The fellowship was established to identify and nurture exceptional graduate students who are investigating innovative ways to solve real-world problems in security, storage and systems management, and who have a desire to collaborate with leading industry experts at an industrial research lab.
The one-year fellowship covers 100 percent of the student’s tuition and fees and provides a $20,000 stipend to cover living expenses.
Recipients will have the opportunity to work on new research projects and will also have access to the company’s market-leading technologies and extensive Global Intelligence Network.
In addition, recipients are eligible for a salaried summer internship at Symantec Research Labs to pursue research. This allows the students to research and develop next-generation technologies that could impact millions of customers, in a real-world industry environment.
The Graduate Fellowship Program is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens enrolled in a U.S. university doctoral or master of science program. Key goals of the program are to fund research in areas likely to result in tangible value for Symantec customers and to fund scientists interested in pursuing eventual employment in the private sector.
“To extend our technology innovation requires that we seek out bright and energetic researchers,” said Joe Pasqua, vice president, research, Symantec.
“Symantec is committed to advancing innovative research and developing next-generation technologies to help customers secure and manage their information. Our support of the nation’s top graduate students is one of several efforts we undertake to continuously generate an infusion of new ideas, perspective and energy to solving real-world problems,” Pasqua said.
The deadline for completed applications and supporting materials for the 2009 award is Dec. 12.
