NABA keeping legacy alive

Students from the National Association of Black Accountants Grambling Chapter continue to strive for excellence. The NABA students attended the Southwest-Western Region Student Conference held Oct. 16-18 in Dallas. The chapter won the “2008 Student Conference Attendance Award,” because the GSU chapter had the highest number of student attendees at the conference. Of the numerous schools present at the conference, the Grambling Chapter was represented by 53 students, followed by Prairie View A&M, which was represented by 32 students.

GSU set an attendance record for NABA conferences.

Grambling students also received 13 of the 26 scholarships awarded throughout the conference. This yielded an amount of $13,000 in scholarships received by Grambling students.

GSU students also had record attendance at the National Convention in June and also received about $52,000 in scholarships.

In preparation for the Southwest-Western Region Student Conference, the NABA Grambling Chapter hosted a preconference to get students ready for interviews and the networking atmosphere. The preconference was facilitated by eight NABA professional members from the Houston professional Chapter, some of whom were Grambling alumni.

The preconference was held in Jacob T. Stewart (College of Business at GSU) on Oct. 11. According to feedback from the students, the preconference was a great success.

NABA is open to business majors. Those who are not members are urged to join. The executives of the chapter can be contacted via e-mail nabagsuchapter@yahoo.com.
