BET made its way back to GSU for its seventh annual Black College Tour. The tour is part of BET’s continuous efforts to highlight and support HBCUs by providing a plethora of activities and fun events that give students a chance to be in a stress free, down to earth family environment.
The tour also offered health information for all attendees and had its Emmy award winning “Rap-It-Up” campaign conducting free on-site HIV testing.
The tour also had its youth involvement in the presidential election by hosting its “Be Heard Innovate” offering on-site voter registration and general election poll voting information.
The McDonald’s Spoken Word Contest was held, which gave away a 13-inch MacBook. The Pepsi Freestyle Rap Contest gave away a traditional iPod, while the Verizon Wireless 3-point Shootout gave away $100 dollars and a cell phone contract.
Fully loaded and ready to rock, the 2008 BET performers included: Lil- Keke, who is slowly making his way back on the rap scene; Brisco, a solo rap artist, who claims to be on many of Lil Wayne’s albums; Mishon from the ABC Family show who was obviously excited about the possibility of a singing career; and Rock City, a Caribbean group from St.Thomas, V.I.
