Ready for business

The upkeep of beauty has returned to the Grambling campus. Nestled beneath the atrium of Favrot Student Union is a beauty salon that has been an important feature to the ladies of the Grambling campus. Formerly “Styles Unlimited,” the salon now has a new name and new proprietorship. Proprietress and coiffeuse Yvonne Ray has had the doors of “Anointed Hands” opened from Sept. 2, serving the beauty needs of Grambling ladies who are in need of having their hair combed, brushed and styled professionally.

Ray has had 15 years experience as a hairdresser, making her a master at her craft.

Ironically, Ray never intended to open up a beauty salon in Grambling or anywhere else for that matter. She and her husband moved to Ruston from Austin, Texas, to open up a mission.

“I thought that my career was over,” Ray said.

The simple act of picking up a newspaper would dictate the direction of her career. Advertised in the paper was an open bid available for the salon. She applied and tied with another bidder. The bid was reopened, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Ray says that people are especially happy that she has introduced technology to the salon. She boasts having a credit/debit card machine at the salon, making it convenient for her customers.

Advertising on KGRM, expanded her clientele beyond the GSU student population.

Anointed Hands is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Walk-ins are welcomed. But if you would like to make an appointment to be treated for that special occasion or just because, call (318) 247-5141.
