Head of voter team speaks out

I am Lamark Hughes, the Voter Empowerment director. The Voter Empowerment team would like to thank everyone who came out and participated in voter empowerment events. The team was established under the SGA to encourage students to participate in the political process. The team’s first event was the Democratic National Convention Watch Party, during which 80 students registered to vote.

We had a two-week voter registration drive during which more than 1,500 students registered. On Oct. 2, we had a rally encouraging students to vote. Special guests were LyricalQuest and NAACP President Tierra Walters, who spoke about the upcoming election. At the closure of our registration drive, we participated in dorm walks to remind students to not only register to vote, but also be a part of history in the making by voting.

Continue to check your GSU mailbox for your registration cards. If you have any questions about your registration card, call (318) 251-5510.

For students living on-campus, the voting sites are Grambling City Hall, Catherine’s Dance Studio and the Catholic Student Center. Bring your state ID to the polls. Students who need absentee ballots or have questions should go to the Student Union Room 211.

The Truth Forum with Jeff Johnson is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Nursing Building Auditorium.
