Funeral for longtime resident is Friday

Services will be held Friday for Mose Rabon Sr. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Slack officiating. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. until time of service. Services will be under the direction of Our Christian Funeral Home of Ruston.

Rabon was a longtime resident of Grambling. He passed away Sunday at the age of 100.

His children attended Grambling Starte University. He is the father of Gloria Rabon, a GSU College of Education employee.

He was a longtime employee of GSU, working as a security guard from 1953 to 1973.

Rabon reared his children in the Grambling community.

Rabon was born a century ago on Sept. 20, 1908, to Alberta Booker in Bienville. He was later adopted by Mary Rabon.

In 1929, he married Lola Mae Melton, who was also a Bienville native. This union was blessed with nine children plus one adopted son: Mose Jr, Melvin, Billy, Bobby, Gloria, Mary, Theron, Faye, Thomas and one adopted son, Thomas N (Tommy).

Mose was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years (Lola) and two sons, Thereon and Mose Jr. He is survived by sons Melvin (LaDora); Billy (Elowise); Bobby (Youlia); Thomas; and adopted son Tommy (Donna); three daughters: Gloria Rabon; Mary Ellis; and Faye Henderson (Billy); 32 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren and 47 great-great grandchildren.
