Freshman class president reveals plans for semester

I, Tyrus Carter, would like to thank everybody that voted and elected my staff and I into office. Your support is greatly appreciated, and it encourages us as the Freshman Class to make the year a very productive one.I would also like to give a special thanks to my vice president, Alexis Washington. I appreciate all the hard work that you have done thus far. Keep up the good work.

My platform is mainly based on bringing the Freshman Class together. As a freshman, I understand how overwhelming this new college experience is, us being in a new environment around a lot of different people and having to adjust to new settings.

My main goal is to inform you about campus activities, programs and other organizations that are out there that you can get involved in to make this year as memorable as possible.

These opportunities also allow you to work on your networking skills. Need I remind you that we are all here to further ourselves and to get a higher education. But sometimes in life, it’s not about what you know, but who you know.

With that being said, we can get down to business. Our first class meeting will be Monday at 6 p.m. in Room 242 in Favrot Student Union.

A general Freshman Class meeting will take place once a month in the same room at 6 p.m. Those dates are Oct. 20, and Nov. 13. It is very important that you attend these meetings so that you can be aware of what’s going on with your class.

The Freshman Class will also help with High School Day Saturday. Other activities consist of a float in the upcoming Homecoming parade on Oct. 18. Volunteers will be needed. We also want to sponsor a Freshman Week that will take place Oct. 20-24.

Activities for that week will be announced. There will be a book drive on Nov. 20. Also a Thanksgiving food drive and Toys for Tots Christmas gift drive during the week of Dec. 1-5 have been scheduled.

I hope to have a successful year and to have my desired projects accomplished. Thank you!
