Four area high school teachers participated in the 2008 CMAST Summer Science Teachers Academy, which was held May 27-June 10.
Dr. Allen Miles, professor of chemistry, was the faculty facilitator for the Academy, which was available to high school science teachers in the area of chemistry.
Each participant received a LabQuest Chemistry laboratory equipment package, $700 stipend and 50 Continuing Learning Units.
Participants were Rhonda D. Lee of Jonesboro-Hodge High School, Shavonne Garner-Price of Gibsland-Coleman High School, Benjamin M. Miles of Arcadia High School, and Roosevelt Strong of Pineview High School in Lisbon.
An integrated approach focusing on computerized experiments that minimize the use of actual chemicals in the classroom was utilized.
An underlying mathematical theme was integrated throughout each laboratory experience.
Dr. Dagne Hill was program coordinator, working with CMAST director RaShon Carruthers and Dean Connie Walton.
