Golf fundraiser to honor Grambling graduate

Herndon High School Scholarship Fund Inc. is inviting the public to participate in the first Floyd Washington Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament on May 10 at Olde Oaks Golf Club in Haughton starting at 1 p.m. Registration is 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The tournament is in honor of Floyd Washington, a 1965 graduate of Grambling State University who served as SGA president and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Washington and the Ford Fund made Grambling the benefactor of many financial scholarships and donations.

Proceeds, in memory of Floyd Washington Jr. of Detroit and Dixie, will provide scholarships for descendants of Herndon High School students from 1956 to 1970.

In addition to the May 10 tournament, there will be a fish fry and scholarship award ceremony at 6 p.m. A silent auction featuring an American Airlines round-trip ticket to anywhere in the country, donated by Henry Adley ATH Corp. of Dallas, dinner for two at Brothers Seafood Restaurant in Shreveport, and many other gifts are up for bids.

Full Moon Bistro in Shreveport, along with the Washington Barbershop, is hosting an after-party at 9 p.m for all paid participants. Eagle Distributing is providing free beverages for all golfers.
