A celebration well deserved

A celebration of 105 years of living is a remarkable feat for any person to accomplish, and that is exactly the milestone that James B. Haskin reached on his birthday, Wednesday. Born in 1903, Haskin spent the majority of his lifefarming, helping to rear children, and doing the Lord’s work as deacon in his church, New Prosperity Baptist Church for 84 years.

A resident of lucy, some might say it’s no wonder “Big Daddy” as affectionately called by family and friends, has lived such a prosperous life. In a time when most people do not out live their children, Haskin has lived to see the birth of five generations.

He has witnessed the birth of seven children, 26 granchildren, two of which are Grambling State University graduates and two others presently attend; 22 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Haskin has also survived his oldest daughter.

Haskin’s longevity could be credited to the well known watermelons he grew back in the day or good genes or even the little town he lives in. Several members of his family believe that Haskin is more than obliged to give credit for his 105 years of stable mental and physical health to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“Honor thy mother and father for you will live a long life on earth,” which is the first command with promise, Ephesians 6:1-3 is a perfect summary of the life James B. Haskin is living.
