Omega Gamma Gamma chapter receives awards

Still standing strong, the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi remains to be the best chapter in the world. The “parties” and the “hops” may look good, but according to the brothers, that’s not all they have to offer. For the past three years, the brothers of Gamma Gamma have won the Social Action Chapter of the years from 2005-2007. Also, along with their hard work and community service, they were able to develop great scrapbooks of their work and won the Scrapbook of the year award in 2004 and 2005. For 2007 and 2008, the brothers of Gamma Gamma also have brought in the Retention Award at the district meeting. And overall, the most prestigious of them all, the International Chapter of the year award was awarded to Gamma Gamma in 2005 and 2006.

“If a brotherhood can come together as one and exemplify the greatness of ones abilities, then nothing but greatness can occur,” said Brother Kevin Anthony, the second vice district representative of the fraternity. “When you do what’s right and take care of responsibilities, people will recognize the hard work put in. And that is all we did as a chapter and brotherhood, we took time out of our personal lives to do the service of Omega as we were pledged to do. The Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi thrives off ‘it can be done is good, is done is better.'”

Brother Kevin Anthony received the dedicated service award at the district meeting in San Antonio, Texas on the week of March 19th-23rd. Kevin Anthony ranks the third highest in the district, coming from the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi at Grambling State University. Brian S. Gundy, initiated Spring 2003, is the second vice Grand Basileus, who is ranked as the third highest in the entire fraternity, coming from the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Grambling State University.

The brothers of Gamma Gamma brought in thirteen new members on March 29th, 2008. Under the guidance of Keith Kelly, Marvin Mercer, and Andrew Azodeh, they were able to bring in brothers Chris Harmon Jr., Frank Bryant III, Anthony Clifton, Jonathon Irvin, Raymond Canty Jr., Byron Banks, Andre Burks, T.J. McCord, Eual Phillips, Brandon George, Nicholas Hubbert, Jamal Breaux, and Dean Weatherly.

“This has been the biggest line since the Spring 2003 line and with these young brothers talent and enthusiasm, we should not have any problem bringing in more and more awards every year from here on out,” said Brother Keith Kelly, 1st Vice Basileus of Gamma Gamma.

“With their versatile attributes, Gamma Gamma will continue to be the world’s greatest chapter. With the awards rolling in, and the brothers working hard, expect to see a lot more accomplishments from these young men in time to come.
