Editor picks his five favorite fighting games of all time

With this week’s coverage of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I started to think about some of my favorite fighting games. So I decided to tell you about them. Here are, in no particular order, my five favorite fighting games.1. Def Jam: Fight For New York (Electronic Arts) – EA’s attempt at blending hip-hop culture and fighting games proved to be an immeasurable success, both critically and economically.

2. Mortal Kombat II (Midway) – The second MK game played better, had better graphics and was much bloodier than its infamous predecessor.

3. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Capcom) – This final collaboration between Capcom and Marvel Comics produced one of gaming’s most frenzied and insanely fast fighting experiences ever.

4. Guilty Gear X2 (Atlus/Arc System Works) – Considered by many to be the perfect arcade fighting game. Extremely hard to find now, and equally hard to truly master.

5. Street Fighter II: Championship Edition (Capcom) – Most gamers call this second version of the legendary Street Fighter II arcade game the standard by which all others are held. After this, many couldn’t bring themselves to play another fighting game.
