Former Grambling State University employee remembered

Funeral services for Dorothy Ann Jackson Ashford of Grambling will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Christ Temple Baptist Church, 7349 Highway 80, in Grambling. Mrs. Ashford died Monday at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport.

She was born on July 20, 1952 in Simsboro, to Lorine and Zelma Jackson. On December 8, 1969, she was united in matrimony to Olemuel Ashford, Jr. She was preceded in death by infant daughter Lorine Ashford.

She is a graduate of Grambling High School. She attended Grambling State University where she majored in office administration. She went on to provide years of service as a secretary at Grambling State for several departments until 2001.

Mrs. Ashford served as a member of the Women’s Ministry at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Ruston. Most recently, she served as an usher at Christ Temple Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory: husband Olemuel Ashford, Jr., Grambling; son Olemuel Ashford, III, Bloomington, Ill.; sisters Ruby Crane, Kansas City, Mo.; Louise Evans, Grambling; Liz (Tom) Randle, Kansas City, Mo.; Doris (Johnny) Hassen, Memphis, Tenn.; Betty Bradford, Grambling; and Zelma Diane (Jimmy) Dean, Grambling; sister-in-laws Conchita (Darrel)Verret, Sachse, Texas; Sandra (Gary) Dupree, Grambling; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Interment will be held at Grambling Memorial Garden on Highway 80.
