Job Fair brings out students

It is an 18 year tradition that is hosted before the rival football game between Grambling and Southern, the State Farm Bayou Classic College and Job Fair. This year there were many in attendance in hopes to find the job, internship or the college of their dreams, “I just got hear and can’t wait to look around. I plan on applying to Southern,” said John McDonald 35 High School student Geneva Thomas.

Whether for that weekend they were rooting for blue and gold or black and gold everyone was able to pacify their rival spirits and congregate at the J. W. Marriot and enjoy this 18 year old tradition.

State Farm Insurance Company, the sponsor for the Bayou Classic was one of the many Job Fair participants present.

Bryant Hamilton, one of the spokes persons for State Farm stated, “We are here looking for students who have good communication skills, students with skill variations and those who have been a leader during their college experience.”

Of the many that were in attendance Alexandria/Pineville convention &Visitors Bureau, Home Depot, State Farm Insurance Companies, Alabama A&M University, Southern University Agricultural Center and Grambling State University Undergraduate programs were the most visited booths or most talked about companies at the fair.

“We are here to inform the students graduating from high school about all of the wonderful things that are going on at GSU, like the new dorms and the food court as well as inform them about the new admission program and out-of-state program,” said Chyree Dean of GSU.

When asked why are the College and Job Fairs important to the Bayou Classic, Event Coordinator, Rebekka Hughes responded, “It’s important for the city of N.O. as well as the state of Louisiana. It’s important to rebuild not just for the city but for the students also. It also gives the students experience and exposure with different companies before entering the workplace.”

If you didn’t attend the College and Job fair this year you missed a treat. Make sure to look forward for all of the wonderful things that will be happening at next year’s College and Job Fair.
