Charisma puts on her Sunday’s Best

Former Miss GSU 2006-2007, Charisma Sweat, has auditioned for BET’s new show, Sunday Best, and has been selected to showcase her vocal talent in hopes to become America’s next big gospel recording artist.Sweat is one of 20 other spirit- filled, vocally talented contestants who were chosen to “put on their Sunday’s Best.” Auditions were conducted nationwide.

The 20 contestants will be coached by performers from the gospel and secular world. Along with being granted the opportunity to be coached by legendary singers and performers, the 20 contestants will be judged by the award-winning group Mary Mary, and gospel great BeBe Winans. With energetic and dynamic Kirk Franklin serving as host.

In addition to showing off their vocal talents, the 20 contestants are all fighting for a chance to win the Sunday Best title, $300,000 to benefit his/her community, a recording contract and a 2008 Toyota Camry.

“I am excited for her. I have always known that she wanted to become an artist in the music industry. I am happy, proud and extremely excited,” said longtime friend Tosha Nichols.

“It’s good to see someone you know who deserves it. As a current GSU student, I am excited to see an alumnus of my school doing something positive,” said Jamie Johnson, from Palm Springs, Calif.

On the Sunday Best message board one person stated of Charisma, “I was just ecstatic to see that beauty was represented in [all] shapes and sizes and styles. Charisma, Chrystal Aiken, and Deanna Dixon represented pluz (sic) size women so beautifully and their spirits were so genuine,” said latorawardell.

“I am happy and proud of my line sister. We will be rooting for her,” said Tequita Bryant, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Charisma will compete with 9 other contestants next week in hopes of moving on to the next round.
