Forum set for state representative candidates

A political forum featuring candidates for state representative District 11 will be held in Grambling Monday at 6 p.m., in the city’s newly renovated Recreation Center on King Street behind the fire station. The candidates will have an opportunity to present their platforms, after which citizens will be able to ask questions.

“We want to give the citizens of Grambling and District 11 a chance to listen to and talk to the legislative candidates in person,” said Doug Porter, president of the Northeast Grambling Homeowners Association, one of the sponsoring organizations. “It is important that when we take part in this civic process of electing public officials, we do it as informed citizens. That is our goal.”

The forum will be moderated by Obadiah Simmons of Grambling State University and Reginald Owens of Louisiana Tech University.

“We hope we get as much or more citizen participation in this legislative forum as we got in the police jury forum last week,” Porter said. “This forum will be like the one we hosted last week for jury candidates. Presentations will be timed. Citizens will write their questions after candidates make their presentations. The questions will then be presented to the candidates by the forum moderators.”

Porter said the forum should last for about an hour.
