The Dorchester Publishing Company is sponsoring the SHOMI Fiction Creative Writing Contest for aspiring authors 18 and older. The prize includes a guaranteed publishing contract.The contest covers novels in fantasy thriller, science fiction, romance, and subgenres of alternative romance (paranormal, futuristic, etc.). Entries should feature a storyline centering on a confident, capable young woman in an alternate universe who shatters pre-existing feminine stereotypes.
Dorchester editors say the target audience of the contest are the fans of Blade Runner, Resident Evil, Alias, Underworld and La Femme Nikita.
SHOMI Fiction contestants are required to have a completed manuscript of 80,000 to 90,000 words in order to participate.
To enter, send the first three chapters (no more than 50 pages) of the manuscript with a cover letter and two- to seven-page synopsis to Dorchester Publishing, Attn: SHOMI Fiction Contest, 200 Madison Ave., Suite 2000, New York, NY 20016.
