Kappa Week a success

Once a semester, the brothers from the Gamma Psi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi hold a week long event for Grambling students entitled, “Kappa Week.”It is roughly five days of free admission activities for students. President Eric Burbank, a senior Accounting /CIS major from New Orleans, reflects on the past week’s success.

“Sometimes it’s not a lot to do in Grambling, we want students to come out, support, and have fun for free.”

On Monday, the week kicked off with a battle of the sexes. About 100 males and females showed up for the war of words. The night ended with a victorious male defeat.

Tuesday began as a free luncheon for faculty and staff in the Black & Gold room. Later the festivities continued with a night of “Ask the Brothers.”

This open forum was for ladies and gentlemen where their questions about almost anything could be answered. The audience posed topics such as why men cheat, and why girls feel the need to dislike other girls.

Poetry night on Wednesday became an event combined with another organization on campus, Omega Psi Phi. The house was packed as the audience listened to the inspiring words of Gamma Gamma’s own Nyle Dixon and Gamma Psi’s own Larry Jackson.

As the week began to wind down, the brothers were participants in a Kappa Auction. The brothers auctioned off were to provide the buyer with possibly dinner & a movie, and to overall show them the true meaning of a gentlemen. The highest bid of $70.00 was auctioned off for Mr. Thomas Fields.

Finally, the last event included a morning car wash. The brothers beat the heat as they washed cars in the early sun.

“We were just having fun,” said Burbank as he recalled the week’s past turnout. It was an overall success that even included smaller projects such as the “Queen for a Day” ticket raffle. Tickets were sold at $1.00 a piece allowing one winner to be treated as a queen for one whole day. Getting her hair and nails done are just some of the benefits of becoming a winner.

Burbank assures that the student body can look forward to more events held by Kappa Alpha Psi as soon as Homecoming Week.
