Southern Lab pounds Grambling High

The Grambling High Kittens lost to Southern Laboratory High 53-0, Friday in their home opener.”Last week was a measuring stick for us,” coach Jamar Dorsey said. “We are still where we are, we have a lot of work to do, and we are not going to run away from work.

“We are going to keep working and teaching this game and laying down the foundation,” the first-year coach said.

The GHS Kittens jumped out to a quick start forcing a fumble early in the first quarter but failed to capitalize on the Southern Kittens’ mistake. Although GHS had a hard time moving the ball, Dorsey still remains confident in his offense.

“The No. 1 thing we have to do is correct it, we are going to keep teaching this game,” Dorsey said. “This is their first time running my offense, and we are going to get it.

“Be patient and we will put the ball in the end zone.”

This week the GHS Kittens will take on Ringgold High School in the second game of the season and the first on the road. The Redskins lost their last game against St. Frederick 38-0.

“Expect for the team to be fired up,” coach Dorsey said. “Nobody enjoys losing 53-0. I haven’t slept since Friday, and I know that the team has not either. You will see an improvement from last week.”

“The keys to a victory are a great week of practice,” he added. “Preparation is key, the way you practice is the way you play. We are going to get in better shape and tighten down practice.

“If everything goes well and we leave it out on the field, we should be in the drivers seat on Friday,” he said.

The game begins at 7 p.m.
