Grambling High loses Homecoming 26-6

Grambling Kittens walked off the field with their helmets in hand and their heads hanging low after losing their Homecoming game 26-6 to the Bernice Bears. The Bears quarter back Decarzyo Fields, who carried the ball eight yards for a touchdown main target of the game was running back Charles Thompson who scored three touchdowns, carrying the ball for 18 yards in the first quarter for the first touchdown of the game. In a game that was dominated by defense,the Bears had four interceptions and four forced fumbles recovering two of them. Bernice’s’ defense held the Kitten offense in check for the majority of the game with the Kittens only score of the game coming in the second quarter. Kittens linebacker, Kacey Saulsberry scored their only touchdown of the game in the second quarter just before the half. The Kittens did manage to slow Bernice’s offense in the third quarter, but the Bears broke down the defense and scored in the fourth, ending the game with the score 26-6. The Kittens were threatening in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bears were able to hold them off by way of some excellent play from the defense.Thompson, Bernice’s running back led all rushers with ten carries for 136 yards and one touchdown. Running back DePaul Elliott contributed eight carries for 85 yards, Cedric Jones had nine carries for 39 yards, and Fields carried the ball for 30 yards. The Kittens, who hold a record of 0-7, will be off next week, while the Bears will play host to district rival Cedar Creek this Friday night.The Bears win over Grambling High leaves them with a record of 4-3, winning their last four games.
