Phi Beta Sigma celebrates a successful years’end

"Blu Phi-You Know" was the common phrase that swept across the room at the Phi Beta Sigma Annual Banquet. The banquet was held Thursday, May 4 to honor the chapter members for their commitment to seeing this academic year to a successful close.

Chapter president, Anthony Turner, said "It’s hard work doing this, but with the help of the brothers we did it!" Turner was honored with the "Mr. Present-Dential" and "Mr. Blu Phi-You Know."

Other honorees were Joshua Murdock (Neophyte of the Year), Carmen Benson, Jr. ("Mr. Culture for Service"- Service for Humanity Award), Darren Potts (Mr.Scholarship, Jerry Fain (Mr. StepTacular) and Anthony Walker (Mr. I’m My Brother’s Keeper).

The Sigmas have participated in many activities on and off campus this year. They volunteered at the African American History Program and Festival on the Green. They partnered with the Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta to host a Voter Registration Drive entitled "Red, White, and Blu Phi". They have also conducted Cancer Awareness and Money Management Seminars benefiting the students of Grambling State University. In addition, they tutored students in the New Rocky Valley Baptist Church Tutorial Program.

Member, Carmen Benson Jr. sums it up best by stating, "We give back to the community." Blu Phi certainly does know service.
