Lady Tigers hand out end-of-year awards

It was that time again for the end of the year awards banquet for the women’s basketball team. The banquet is held every year to honor outstanding players on and off the court. This year, senior Juleen Smith dominated, winning six awards. These awards included the Captain Award, Senior Award, Mary Currie (free throw leader) Award, Veronica Ivory (assist leader) Award, Alecia Roberson (academic achievement) Award, Lachandra Leday (offensive player of the year) Award, and Lisa Bruins Award. Smith finished this season with 17 PPG and 426 points on the season. Smith also averaged 2.56 APG and 64 assists on the season. Lacey Cormier also received awards for her defensive and rebounding skills. Cormier received the Tarcha Hollis (best rebounder) Award and John Thomas (defensive player of the year) Award. Cormier averaged 8.2 RPG and had 213 rebounds on the season. She also had 68 blocks and 15 steals. The seniors also claimed some awards. Dominique Headd claimed the Captain Award. Natashia Wilmore and Amber Brandon racked up on the Senior Award. Victoria Handy also scored with the Roberson Award. The Most Improved Awards went to Gabrielle Fleming and Diashia Huff. Kourtney Sherman received the Lady Tiger Spirit Award. Also receiving awards were the managers of the Lady Tigers. The managers are Kourtney Giles, Johnathan Harris, Alonzo Marish, Brittany Slack, Christina Stafford, and Sophon Thach.
