The Grambling State Tigers win two out of a three game series against the
Texas Southern University Tigers to wrap up the Southwestern Athletic Conference play last
weekend.
In game one, the Tigers of Grambling were beaten 5-1, although they out-hit the TSU
Tigers in the game. Pitcher Brandon Waters gave up three earned runs in six innings of
work. The game was tied at one until the TSU Tigers had a four run output in the fourth
inning to take the lead.
In game two, however there was a different story. The GSU Tigers never trailed
in the game. When the TSU Tigers tied the game, the tigers of Grambling put on hitting
display that resulted in four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Grambling held off a
late surge back Texas Southern to twin the game 6-4.
Pitcher Demetrius Marshall threw a complete game, holding TSU to only four earned runs.
The series wrapped up with the two teams going into extra innings before a victor was
announced. Grambling and Texas Southern each had chances to win the game separately.
Outfielder Chris Sharp threw out a potential game-ending run at home plate to keep GSU in
the game.
Pitchers Sontus Mitchell and Mario Jefferson allowed no earned runs after relieving Jonavan
Robinson.
At the top of the 12th inning with two outs three consecutive hits capped off by
Walter RoquemoreA-s three-run double gave the Tigers of GSU the lead, and took the wind out
of the sails of Texas Southern.
