New eatery opens in The Village

Grambling, there is a new restaurant in The Village called RJ’s Cafe, and it is bringing a smile to everybody who dines there. This restaurant’s menu right now is basic but carries a large impact on your stomach. RJ’s serves popcorn shrimp, oysters, chicken tenders, catfish, and smoked turkey legs, all for only $4.60.

On top of that, every order except turkey leg comes with fries and a salad. RJ’s also plans to sell soul food coming real soon.

RJ is the man behind the counter wearing the chef’s toque. Otherwise known as T.R. Jones, RJ is a retired professor at Grambling who is following his passion to run a restaurant. He has been involved in many businesses in his lifetime and has gone back and forth from owning restaurants since 1970.

A great thing about RJ’s Cafe is it’s clean. RJ is friendly, and the food is cooked fresh and prepared quicker than any restaurant in Grambling. It took no more than 10 minutes for RJ to prepare catfish, oysters, chicken tenders, with fries and salad. While you briefly wait for your food, you can play an arcade game, watch TV or enjoy the radio, in a cool climate.

RJ’s Cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and hours might expand in the near future. Like the signs inside the building say, this is a locally operated business, and the money spent there stays in the community and benefits us all, RJ said he appreciates all the business coming his way, as well as the friendly response he has received so far.
