Houston hosted the annual SWAC Tennis Round-Up this past week. Both Grambling’s men’s and women’s team attended this tournament and competed against teams of their opposing division.

This tournament is better known as a "round robin," consisting of ten teams, five representing the Western division and five from the East.

"Both teams did fairly well," said senior Omosefe Amen. "I know they will do better next season." The men’s team closed out the tournament with an impressive record of four wins and one loss. Their lost came from a close game with Alcorn State, in which they lost 3 – 4. They then dominated the remainder of the division.

"This round-up was simply preparation for the SWAC Championship next week," said senior Jairo Angueria.

The men’s team will meet again with the top three seeds of each division to compete for the title.

The women’s team closed the competition out with a 2 – 3 record, defeating Jackson State and Mississippi Valley.

Sophomore Illisa Knight defeated Alabama A&M #6 seed with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Patricia Gallegos won her match against #4 seed Mississippi Valley 6-0, 6-0.

"We have a young team, majority freshmen," said Stephanie Haughton. "This year was simply a learning process."
