VIBE Poetry Lounge relaxes and enlightens

Illuminated with sophisticated sweet melodies and a salute to aspiring artists, Grambling invites all to the VIBE (Vivid Illumination Breeds Enlightenment) Poetry Lounge where you can shed your Monday blues and envelop yourself into a calm night of sweet scented candles, warm vibes and a new awakening into poetry.

“It was my first time here and I liked the atmosphere and music. It was really soothing,” said freshman Shamika Harvey.

Freshman Querra Kindred said, “I loved the music so much I wanted to stay afterward just to listen to them play.”

The intimate scenery also makes a perfect audience for inspiring artist of all kinds, music, vocal, or spoken word artist who are trying to break into stage performing or simply therapeutically express themselves.

“Although there were very few people in attendance, I really enjoyed myself. I performed and felt very comfortable,” said sophomore Alexandria Gasper.

Senior Ena Young, a member of the Cross Cultural Club and hostess of the event, said the idea of the poetry session is to bring in new artists from around the campus because there are some who are talented and don’t even know it.

“We’re trying to create an atmosphere of a real lounge/club on campus so that individuals can feel free and comfortable to express themselves,” she said.

April Valentine, adviser of the Cross Cultural Club, which sponsors the VIBE Lounges, said the group’s goal is to provide an outlet for individuals to get a chance to learn to try something new.

The VIBE Lounge is hosted every other Monday and its next event will be Nov 7.
