Deltas hold night of DIVAstation

The ladies of the Delta Iota chapter of Delta Sigma Theta dazzled the student body and Grambling community with their Red Carpet Premiere which entailed an evening of poetry, song, and dance Tuesday evening.

Chapter member Jacqueline Cooper identifies the purpose of this event when she states, “We just wanted to make students and the surrounding community aware of Delta’s ideals and principles.”

Attending this event gave students the opportunity to meet and mingle with the ladies of the Delta Iota chapter, and it gave the chapter an opportunity to showcase its’ outstanding members, accomplishments, goals, and services.  Ashton Clark notes, “The red carpet premiere gave me a lot of insight on the sorority.”  Starr Pue also characterizes the members when she states, “The Delta Iota chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has an amazing group of women.”

After a stunning introduction of these elite individuals, poet Harold Green enlightened the crowd with two of his original works titled “Philophobic” and “Dear Summer.”

“My favorite part of the program was Harold Green’s performance,” said Jacale McDaniel.

The Delta Iota Chapter was awarded a scholastic achievement award for the highest grade point average in the Southwest Regional Conference of Delta Sigma Theta this past year.  The sorority exemplifies its slogan of “Rebuilding and Restoring Communities” as it was the 1st National African Association to connect with Habitat for Humanity.

The ladies also took time to recognize “Notable Delta Divas” such as former State Representative Pinkie Wilkerson and Dr. Helen Richardson.

The crowd was graced with a remarkable, interpretative praise dance by Cristan Randle and a jazz dance by Shandrea Lyons and Jamila Mentuhotep.

Members of the Entourage Vocal Ensemble swept the ladies away with their outstanding performance of the song “I Surrender All.” NaToya Stone inquires, “It was a treat. If I would have missed it, I would have been disappointed.”  Lauren Elliott, who also attended states, “There was incredible talent, and I can’t wait for the next event.” Cooper also says, “We were prepared for 170, but we had over 200 to attend.”  Another member, Chelsea Albritton, inquires, “It was the best as only Delta’s could do it!”
