Basketball, football camps set for June 12-17 on campus

The Annual Larry Wright All-Star Basketball Camp will be held on Sunday, June 12th through Friday, June 17th, 2005. The All-Star camp is open to all interested males ages 8 through 18. Registration will begin at 12 p.m. on June 12th at the Men’s Memorial Gymnasium on Grambling State’s campus.

The entire camp will be conducted on the campus of Grambling State University. All dormitories, dining hall and recreational facilities are air-conditioned. The newly renovated Men’s Memorial Gymnasium and the intramural buildings are some of the finest sport facilities that will be utilized during the camp. Camp T-shirts, basketballs, certificates and trophies will be presented at the conclusion of this event.

The All-Star camp will be operated with the campers’ best interest and safety in mind. The camp will not only be filled with a full day of basketball activities, but with helpful seminars ranging from conditioning to applying to the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Enthusiastic and qualified clinicians will do their best to make the camp a memorable experience for all involved. Campers will eat on the Grambling State campus that will include a variety of nutritious meals from the various food groups. Resident campers will be housed in one of the university’s dormitories on campus.The fee for resident campers is $200.

The commuting camper will report to campus each day at 8 a.m. and will be picked up each day at 5 p.m. Daily meals will be provided for commuting campers throughout the course of the camp. The fee for commuting campers is $150. Please note that in order to reserve space within the camp, a deposit of $25 is required for early registration.

The Camp authorities will exercise the utmost care in assuring that each camper safety is the number one priority. All activities will be supervised. Twenty-four (24) hour supervision will be provided in the dormitories.

The inaugural Melvin Spears’ Football Camp, open to all males between the ages of 9 and 17, will be held June 12-17.

Campers will be divided into groups according to age, position and ability so that individual skills can be taught. Flexibility exercises and a strength program will be included. All activities are non-contact (no hitting, tackling, etc). The camp will be conducted by the GSU football coaching staff along with selected coaches in the surrounding areas. This camp will take place at the football facility on Grambling State’s campus. The campers will eat and sleep in the air-conditioned facilities on campus. Robinson Stadium and the practice fields are among some of the sports facilities that will be utilized by the camp. Awards will be given at the conclusion of the camp.

Camp officials will exercise the care in assuring that each camper’s safety is the No. 1 priority. All activities with the camp will be supervised on 24-hour basis. The coaches will spend the night in the dormitories with the campers. Daily activities include swimming, movies, highlight films and recreation room activities.

The cost is $270 per overnight camper that includes five days of camp, room and board, two T-shirts, three meals a day, recreational games (including swimming), weight training instruction, photos (individual and group) and an awards program. A $50 deposit is due with your application while the remainder is due at registration. A camp video or extra camp T-shirts can be purchased for $10 each.

The day campers will report to campus at 8 a.m. and will be picked up each day at 6 p.m.

The cost for commuting campers is $175 per person with a $50 deposit. Additional rates are: Special Team Rate with 10 or more campers is $230 per person; the Family Rate with two or more children is $240 per person; and the Day Camp Family Rate with two or more children is $175 per person.
