Department members remember Young

Funeral services were held for Andre’ Maurice Young Saturday, March 5 at the Mt. Zion B.C. in Grambling. He passed away Friday, Feb. 25 in the evening.

Andre’ was born Dec. 26, 1978, the middle child of three, born to the union of Milvin Young Jr., and Mary Lane Young. His family moved to Simsboro from Leesville at an early age and joined the Fellowship B.C. under Christian experience.

While at Fellowship, Andre’ joined the young adult choir. "Andre’, better known as Dre to his family and friends, never met a stranger. He loved his family, was supportive of his family, always willing to keep us laughing and often lending a helping hand when needed," remembers his father.

Andre’ is remembered as a good child, son, brother, and man. He formed many lifelong relationships while attending elementary in Leesville, Grambling High School and later Grambling State University majoring in hotel restaurant management. Andre’ would have completed all required courses and expected to graduate in July of 2005.

Some of Andre’s professors and classmates at Grambling State University remembered him fondly.

Janist Monroe, senior hotel restaurant management student from Arcadia, remembers Andre’ as a kind thoughtful person.

"You could count on him, we attended classes together and he was smart," said Monroe.

"Andre’ was a very determined young man, most people dealing with the illness he was dealing with would have given up," said Scotty Ferguson, a senior hotel restaurant management major from Farmerville.

Ferguson said that by Andre’ not reaching his degree goal by a few months saddened the department. But it will make us worker harder in his honor.

Joseph Naylor, advisor, said "Andre’ was a wonderful student to work with over the years. It is very sadden to see not complete his degree after struggling so hard. He will always have a place in my heart."
