Lady Tigers, G-Men sting Alabama State

With the SWAC Tournament just a few days away, the Lady Tigers and G-Men of Grambling State University took care of some unfinished business Saturday night by beating Alabama State in their regular season finale.

With the 69-64 win, the Lady Tigers secured a No. 5 seeding in the upcoming SWAC Tournament that will be played in Birmingham, Alabama.

Junior point guard Juleen Smith led the Lady Tigers with 28 points. Smith, the Inglewood, Calif. product, also had an impressive showing at the free throw line. She connected 14 out of 15 free throws in the win.

Forward Dominique Headd also contributed 12 points and six rebounds for the Lady Tigers.

"The point guard played an awesome game tonight," stated Anthony Mitchell, a sophomore GSU student. "She really came through tonight."

The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a 13-14 record and a 11-7 record in SWAC.

In men’s action, the combo of GSU’s Brion Rush and Andre’ Ratliff proved to be too much for the Hornets of Alabama State University. Rush, the 6’2 Shreveport native, led the G-Men with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Andre’ Ratliff chipped in 17 points in the 60-48 win for GSU.

"Andre’ really lit up the gym with all the three pointers tonight," voiced Roderick Ceaser, a freshman GSU student.

The game started even for both teams with the score tied at 22 at halftime. After the break, the G-Men outscored the Hornets by 12 points in 2nd half to take the win.

With the win, the G-Men ended their regular season with a 14-11 record and a 11-7 record in SWAC.
