Demons beat Tigers 5-1 Saturday, sweep series

The Northwestern Demons came into Grambling with a purpose: to beat the Tigers at home. They achieved that purpose, winning a hard fought battle against the Tigers, 5-1.

The Tigers got on the board early as Darsayle Pearson scored on an RBI from Anthony Johnson.

In the third inning, the Demons evened the game up when Andre Vige’ homered off Demetrius Marshall.

The Tigers and Demons then played superb defense, shutting each other out for three innings.

Each side wondered who would be the first to blink; it was GSU.

Northwestern got an RBI when C. Burkhalter doubled with P. Miller on second. However, the Tigers still had a chance.

The Tigers played a good inning, getting M. Hatch and Anthony Johnson on second and third, respectively. But then C. Johnson struck out, swinging.

In the ninth inning, the Tigers defense and pitching staff had a tough time. Three runs were allowed, which put the game out of reach for the Tigers.

NSU’s Daniel Lonsberry pitched the entire game and allowed the Tigers only one run.

The Tigers were 6-6 after the game, as they continued their three game series with the North Louisiana rival Northwestern. The Tigers went on to be swept 3-0 by Northwestern, dropping 11-7 and 16-0 decisions on Sunday.

Those losses put the Tigers at 6-8 on the season. The G-Men of baseball team will take on Prairie View during a weekend double header.
