On the 19th day of June for the last 21 years of life, my family and I have celebrated Father's Day. It is a day of recognition for all men who take responsibility for their children. Any male can be the father but it takes a real man to be a father. I have had the privilege of knowing my dad for my entire life. My father name is also Peter Dorsey and I think its cool sharing the name. My father has a played a major role in my life.

He has taught me a variety of lessons, and tips. I have a very strong bond with my dad. We can relate and compare daily experiences any day of the week. Since growing up under my dad's wings I have been introduced to many sports and talents. From sideline basketball coaching to throwing a backflip. My dad has always been by my side. Being the youngest son of my father's children, makes me most appreciative, because he spends more time with me as much as he can whenever I visit home.

My father and I have lots in common from our names, to our popularity, and our physical appearance. As long as I can remember whenever me and my dad go out to a familiar place When he's recognized and someone greets us they pause, look at me and say "Boy you must be Lil Pete's son". I often see myself following in his footsteps. My dad attended college and received a bachelors degree and soon began his career in sales, and communication. As a kid coming up my dad has always encouraged me towards my own ideas or goals. My father has six biological children and two step children. My parents divorced when my 15 year old sister Jennifer was of seven. Since then, my dad has been remarried to my stepmother, and they produced my youngest sister Casey. My father has been an ordained minister for the last 9 years of his life. My family and I have celebrate Father's Day as if it was his birthday. My dad and his mother Barbara Birdsong where both born on March 17.Unfortunatley, she pasted away on the day before Jennifer's sixth birthday.

Of the past few years, as I can remember Father's Day consisted of me and my sister traveling about 20 minutes to Illinois to attend my dad's church. After service, we usually all head back to his house by way of detouring to Rally's for a brief snack, while it takes my stepmom a little while to whip a soul food feast in the kitchen.

Throughout the evening we all sit back and enjoy each other's company and give him his gifts. You could say we keep it simple. I show my appreciation all year round by always going the extra mile for him as he does for me.

As long as can remember whenever I get ready to depart my fathers presence he makes sure that I don't have the "hacks on me," better known as having money in my pocket or gas in my vehicle.

Big Pete has love for all his family, and we return it. My dad and I communicate as often as we can because he knows I'm going to continue to make him proud. Once the day comes, I will treat my "Shorty" as he has done for me.

When me and my mother come to an disagreement, she has admitted to being feisty just because I resemble him so much. But at the end of the day my family all agrees that a family who prays together stays together.
