August Wilson play set for next week

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts will present Radio Golf by August Wilson at 7 p.m. next Monday through Thursday.

The play will be performed in the Floyd L. Sandle Theatre in the Conrad Hutchinson Performing Arts Center on the Grambling State campus.

In Radio Golf, the Pulitzer-winning author creates a world of successful business partners rebuilding the community and running for a political office. But success comes at a price where winners and losers are not easily defined.

Radio Golf is the last of Wilson’s 10-play, mythic retelling of African American life decade by decade through the 20th century. It chronicles the 1990s.

Wilson wrote the play just before his early death in 2005. The play contains many of today’s ideological and emotional debates concerning race, privilege economics, politics and the power of history and legacy.

The GSU audience should take great delight in discovering that Wilson uses the university in his storytelling.  It should be noted that the show contains adult language.
