Wallace prepares for SGA run

I am Jonathan Wallace, the 19-year-old son of Herman and Vanessa Wallace. I was born in the city of Jackson, Mississippi, but soon after birth I moved to Rayville, where I was reared.

I am from the 2013 graduating class of Rayville High School and graduated as class valedictorian (4.0 G.P.A.), as well as being a two-sport athlete. I later received a full football scholarship to attend Grambling State University.

Currently, I am a rising senior majoring in kinesiology with a concentration of sports management and minoring in mass communication with a concentration of sports journalism.

I currently hold a 3.8 cumulative G.P.A. while serving in many leadership capacities around campus and receiving recognition for several awards:
Earl Lester Cole Honors College inductee (2013)

Grambling State University Tigers football kicker/punter (2013 – present)
Grambling State University Department of Athletics 2014 ESPYS Total Package Award Recipient
Student Government Association Junior Class senator (2014 – 2015)
Annual Bayou Classic United States Marine Corps Excellence in Leadership Award (2014)
Grambling State University Student Athletic Advisory Committee (2013 – 2014)
Tigerpalooza Talent Show 1st place winner  as piano player. (2014)
GSU Football Academic Award with a 4.0 G.P.A. for the fall semester (2014)
GSU Football Recruiting Weekends host
Pianist at various on-campus social events

I will seek my biggest endeavor so far as I launch my university wide campaign “Exercising the P.O.W.E.R. (Placing Opportunities Within Everyone’s Reach) to Discover Your Purpose”.

Along with the students I will be working with, I plan on placing opportunities within everyone’s reach to discover their purpose by: producing successful campus initiatives of improving the university with a determined attitude; organizing the duties and responsibilities of SGA thoroughly so that they are easily carried out; working hand in hand with the faculty, administration, and alumni of Grambling State University to improve the institution both academically and financially; empowering the student body to graduate with their college degree and excel in their future careers; and revamping the TRUE Grambling spirit throughout the school, continuing with the belief that the motto “The Place Where Everybody Is Somebody” still stands.

This vision didn’t come to me overnight; it is one that came to me after constant conversations with God, and allowing his plans to take place through me.
The success of being selected as the student body president for the world renowned Grambling State University is truly an honor. I now know that it would entail duties of service, appearances, recruiting, mentoring, and being a voice for the student body for this illustrious university; as well as maintaining a high level of performance both in the classroom and on the football field.

I vow to represent my university by using this position to promote positivity, education, and leadership enhancement to everyone I have the opportunity to meet.
