Union Parish to hold gospel choir competition

Ain’t God Good Entertainment will be producing its first Northern Louisiana Gospel Choir competition. Community and Church Choirs from Union, Lincoln, Morehouse, Jackson, and Ouachita Parish, and Southern Arkansas will compete for a $500 grand prize.

This event brings together all denominations under the theme of "Ain’t God Good."

Five choirs will be selected by impartial judges to compete for a trophy and the grand prize. Performances will be based on four criterias: Technical (accuracy, tone quality, intonation, diction, balance and vocal control), Originality (musical interpretation, dynamics, style, expression, artistry), Stage Presence (poise, uniformity enthusiasm, discipline) and Audience engagement (connection with the audience).

This event will be held at the Willie Davis Jr. Recreation Center at 116 Cox Ferry Road in Farmerville on Saturday, May 9 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $7 for children, $8 for adults, and can be purchased directly through the event coordinator De Corza Hausley (318.680.7237), at participating churches, or online at www.ticketriver.com.

The event will have special guest performers, Praise Dancers, a Christian Comedian, picture taking area, vendors, food, and will raffle off a flat screen television. Producer and TV Host Earnie Miles will be one of the judges for this gospel choir explosion

Bobby Crockett renowned guitar player and house band will be present for the event.

"It’s going to be huge. I mean God will be in the building on that day."

"This is something God moved me to do. I’m trying to bring all denominations together to serve God through music," producer Aaron Collins added.

Mother Hendricks, an 87 year old Christian woman who was nearly in tears, offered her feelings about the competition.

"This has never been done here in Farmerville. It will be a good thing. Everybody can come together and give God praise. If it’s god’s will, I will be there."
