Grambling State University’s annual High School Day, where high school students come to see what GSU has to offer, was this past Saturday.
Buses started arriving around 7 a.m. Saturday, with visitors ready to learn what GSU is all about. There were high school students from Monroe, Shreveport and even Dallas.
Grambling provided the students with breakfast and T-shirts and after students toured the campus with an ambassador, the students were showed residential life and how the dorms were set up. Students looked pleased at what they saw.
“I didn’t realize how big the rooms were,” said Tierra Johnson, a student from Woodlawn High in Shreveport. “I like the four bedroom suites the best.”
After the campus tour the students came together at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center to see the booths that were set up with information about campus programs. There were many booths, such as Financial Aid, Residential Life and the athletic program.

who was attending the Family Consumer Science booth, says she wants the students to know there are options other than just teaching.
Around 10 a.m. students were asked to sit in the assembly so they could be welcomed to the campus. DJ Twinz hyped the crowd by going section to section and mentioning certain cities. Dr. Cynthia Warrick, the interim president of GSU, was the first to speak by welcoming the high school students and telling them why Grambling is the school they should consider.
She asked how many of the students are going to be future Tigers, and the students answered with screams.
Miss Grambling State Ginia Smith shared a few words to the high school students, mentioning her major of biology for future students who are interested. She also spoke about going to nursing school after she graduates.
“It’s definitely a program you should consider,” said Smith and she mentioned that all programs are accredited.
For entertainment the World-Fame Marching Band, cheerleaders, and Orchesis Dance company performed for the students which also got the crowd hype.
