Gamma Gamma wins chapter of the year

In 2004, 2005, and 2006, Grambling State University’s own Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was awarded Chapter of the Year at a recent district meeting in Shreveport.

It seems that history is repeating itself, because the brothers of Gamma Gamma have re-grouped and has risen to the top again as they take home the title of Chapter of the year once again. The chapter also won Scrapbook of the Year. The ninth district consists of Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The Brothers 2008-2009 roster consists of Dele Mims, Avin Brinson, Micheal McGlothan, Markas Hoskie, Keith Kelly, Kevin Anthony, Chris Richardson, Nyle Dixon, Andrew Azodeh, Chris Harmon, Frank Bryant III, Anthony Clifton, John Irvin, Raymond Canty, Byron Banks, T. J. McCord, Brandon George, Eual Phillips, Jamal Breaux, Nicholas Hubbert, and Dean Julien Weatherly.

The brothers have worked hard this past year to gain that title. Not only do each individual serve the chapter, the brothers work hard to serve the campus of Grambling State University.

Members are active in sports such as football, golf, baseball, and basketball, members are active in the Student Government Association and in the Favrot Student Union Board, members are active in other organizations, members are active in the band and act in the theatre department, etc.

“Time after time, we felt that many members of Grambling State University were against us for negative assumptions, but we managed to prove our point to be the cut above the rest,” says Brother John Irvin.

“We don’t just hop around in our boots and say we are the best. When people call on us for help,” he said, “We don’t have excuses, we just do it. We help out the citizens of Grambling and we extend our services to anyone needing our help. We don’t turn our back and that is what makes us the best.”

The brothers of the Gamma Gamma chapter have always extended their services to everyone. The brothers helped citizens this past December with bagging Christmas bags, helped Grambling State University Athletics with controlling traffic for the football game, conducting their programs and providing vital information to the student body. They also took a road trip to support President Barak Obama at the Presidential Inauguration.
