Meet-and- greet held for former, current G-Men

Friday night in the Eddie Robinson Conference Hall, coaches and former G-Men met at the formal to talk, eat, and have a good time.

The formal was held the night before Saturday’s alumni flag football game and the Black and Gold spring game.

Every one seemed to be full of joy, with high expectations for the upcoming 2014 football season.

“I expect to win next season,” said coach Corey Robinson, a defensive graduate assistant. “I expect to win at least 8 games and the SWAC West’s division. Coach Fobbs and the rest of the staff have everyone believing they can win.”

The G-Men’s last 8-win season resulted in a win over Alabama A&M for the SWAC Championship in 2011 with Doug Williams as head football coach.

“The team is also looking great in the new system that’s being ran,” said coach Corey Robinson.

Under the reigns of new head football coach Broderick Fobbs, a Grambling State University alumnus, the Tigers look to take on a fresh look.

“It’s definitely a pleasure to be back at Grambling State University, said coach Fobbs. “Being from thirty minutes up the road it’s just a pleasure to get here and see all the friendly faces, to see all the guys that played for Grambling and Coach Rob (Eddie Robinson) actually develop.”

Having played football for the legendary coach Eddie Robinson from 1992-1996 coach Fobbs understands Grambling’s winning tradition.

“I think the first thing we have to do is instill the foundation of hard work, leadership, and doing things the right way,” said coach Fobbs.

“If we do all of those things the wins will come. That’s the foundation that Coach Rob pretty much started and the wins always came as a result of doing stuff things the right way. So we’ll pretty much build the foundation first and the wins will come,” the coach said.

After the formal the coaches and former G-Men joined the current GSU football team in prayer and a recital of the school’s fight song around Eddie Robinson the tiger.

A joyous moment as old and new Gramfam members came together to celebrate what Ka’Jandre Domino, a sophomore wide receiver says, “it’s a fresh start or like a breath of fresh air.”

Domino, the engineering major expresses, “every one is considered equal and the playing field is equal in a sense. There is no favoritism and now everyone has to compete to separate themselves on the depth chart.”

Before departing coach Fobbs said that the G-Men will meet at Eddie each Friday before every game this upcoming season and encourages students join.
